Day 01: Saint Petersburg (D)
Flight with Lufthansa, Austrian or another airline from many European airports to Saint Petersburg and meeting by an English-speaking guide at the airport, transfer to the railway station. Your NordRail train journey starts in the evening, train travel in 2nd class 4 bed sleeping compartment (1st class 2 bed sleeping compartment or 2nd class compartments for 2 persons are bookable, extra charge) AC train.
Note: Get pre-trip St Petersburg on request.


Day 2 Island Kizhi (B,D)


In Petrozavodsk walk to the harbor and hydrofoil ride over the Lake Onega to the Kizhi Island in summer, in winter time with hovercraft. The arrival in Kizhi is at 10:45 am, the return starts at 16:45 pm, in winter 2 hours earlier, enough time for a leisurely walk, you will see a unique collection of Russian wooden architecture.


The Architectural Ensemble of the Kizhi Pogost is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. The Kizhi island cultural historical and natural complex is included into the State Code of Cultural Heritage Sites of Special Value of the Russian Federation: The Church of the Transfiguration of Our Saviour, The Church of the Intercession and The Bell-Tower of the Kizhi Pogost.
Dinner in Petrozavodsk, in the late evening train journey on the legendary Murman railway to the city Olenegorsk northern the Arctic Circle. AC train.


Day 3 Karelia by the Murman Railway (B,D)
Today you travel with the Murman Railway through Karelia, past countless lakes and forests and you will cross the Arctic Circle. The Murman Railroad is one of the oldest railway lines in Russia. Arrival Olenegorsk at late afternoon.
From the railway station transfers by car and boat in summer and car & snowmobiles in winter time to your comfortable accommodation on an island in Lake Lovozero.

Day 4 Discover Lake Lovozero by boat/snowmobile & jeep (B,P,D)
Trip by boat over the Lovozero Lake and jeep tour through the tundra to the holy lake of the Saami - Seydozero and stop, if we can watch reindeer. (in winter time trip by snowmobile instead of boat). AC cottage




Day 5 Sami settlement Lovozero & Murmansk (B,L,D)
By boat (snowmobile in winter) and car we travel to Murmansk with stop in the village Lovozero with lunch. Lovozero is a traditional Russian Sami village, in the village there is a museum, dedicated the Sami culture, which you will visit. Then enjoy a Sami meal of fish and meat around a fire in a traditional house.


Continue tour to your hotel in Murmansk. AC hotel

Day 6 Murmansk & nuclear icebreaker Lenin (B,L)
City tour of the capital of the Russian North. Murmansk is a port city and provides the base for 15 fleets. Visit to the Maritime Museum with photographs and models of the northern Russian Navy and visit the first nuclear icebreaker in the world. AC hotel


Day 7 Kirkenes & Snowhotel – Pasvik valley & brown bears (B)
Early in the morning trip by bus to Kirkenes in Norway, departure will be close to your hotel, travel time 4 hours. After arriving Kirkenes you check-in your rooms in very good middle class hotel in Kirkenes centre or in snow suite Kirkenes snowhotel in winter time (extra costs).


City walk in Kirkenes and tour to the Pasvik Valley. This valley stretches about 100 km southwards in the municipality, and forms a wedge between Russia in the east and Finland in the west. The Pasvik River constitutes most of the 196 km long border towards Russia. Pasvik is known for its flora and fauna with many eastern species of plants and birds that do not exist elsewhere in the country. Norway’s largest bear population lives in Pasvik. Visit the national park center. In the afternoon transfer to your hotel in Kirkenes.


If you have booked the snowhotel, dinner with Norwegian specialities is included. AC hotel.


Snowhotel: Every room in Kirkenes Snowhotel is like a small treasure. The rooms are five metres in diameter, and they are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable night. The pictures looks like you are sleeping on ice, but that would be to cold and to hard for your back, The beds are framed with ice blocks and the beds have comfortable mattresses with thermal insulation on top. You sleep inside a sleeping bag graded for -35 degrees celcius.
Kirkenes Snowhotel have a cosy wilderness restaurant next to the hotel. In the restaurant “Gabba” you can get a taste of the best produce from this region of Norway. The restaurant building is shaped like a Sami tent, but built in russian style of pine timber.
The restaurant is circular with an big open fireplace in the middle. This fireplace is where we cook all the food. Our chefs make sure you get a taste of our lovely local specialities.


Day 8 return travel (B)
After breakfast transfer to the airport and fly back from Kirkenes via Oslo.
On request we will send you offers for further travel with Hurtigruten from Kirkenes or stopover in Oslo.

1st class travelling: Single booking (single room) means booking one bed in first class train compartment. If there is not another single traveler in the group, who also has the same sex (in Russia there are many train compartments, which can be booked for men or women only), then it means that in a first class compartment will travel also another passenger. On request, we can book 1st class train compartments for one person occupancy.

Entry Requirements / participation in travel
For this trip, a passport is required, valid 6 months longer than the end of the trip.
For the Russian visa a free double page in the passport is needed. Please note: to apply Russian visa a travel insurance is needed. All information and documents for visa applications you receive from us, including invitation (visa support). Health notes: There are no vaccinations or prophylactic measures for this journey necessary.
